Til and gul (sesame seeds and jaggery) is used to make ladoos for Makar Sankranti....this is the beginning of the harvesting season in India. On this day til gul and halwa (sugar coated spiked balls) are distributed saying " Til gul ghya ani god god bola". Here these vadis are made with the same concept....the only difference being that til pdr is used instead of whole til seeds along with peanuts.
A little twist to the regular til and gul........
TILACHI VADI / SESAME SEEDS VADI (तिळाच्या वाड्या )
INGREDIENTS
Roasted white til seeds pdr / sesame seeds

1 cup
|
Roasted peanut pdr
|
1 cup
|
Roasted grated dry coconut (crushed)
|
¼ cup
|
Sugar / jaggery
|
1 ¼ cup
|
Water
|
¾ cup
|
Ghee / clarified butter
|
1 tbsp
|
METHOD:
1.
Mix together the sesame seed pdr, peanut pdr and
dry coconut.
2.
Put the sugar and water in a pan. Bring to boil
and simmer.
3.
Put a few drops of the sugar in room temperature
water.
4.
If you can roll it to make a soft pliable ball
then the syrup is ready. This is called the soft ball stage. switch off your gas.
5.
Put the mixed powders in the syrup with ½ tbsp.
ghee.
6.
Mix and immediately remove on to a greased
plate. Do not keep for long as it will make the texture crumbly and it will easily break.
7.
Press it down with a bowl. Do not use bare hands
as the mix is very hot.
8.
Cut into diamonds of desired size while still
hot. Remove when it cools.
