Barley / Jau is a grain that is been used since a very very long ancient time. With modernization we tend to forget such grains whose benefits our forefathers knew and used in plenty. Barley has a lot of  medicinal properties which definately benefit us in nurturing our body plus if taken on time can save us a trip to the doctor.
Barley is said to help during urinary infection, pregnancy, diabetes, for weight loss, as anti ageing, acidity, stomack and throat infection, fever, and to an extent even heart diseases but its not a substitute to the doctor.
Include it as a part of your daily diet and see the wonderful benefits that you reap.



Jau / Barley
1 tbsp
1 glass
Lemon juice
1 tsp
1 tsp
8 – 10 leaves
Ginger grated
½ tsp
A pinch


1.       Take barley in a small vessel and add the water to it.

2.       Bring to a boil and simmer till the water reduces to half and the water turns pink in colour. Allow to cool. Strain it.

3.       Separately muddle together the ginger, mint and lime juice so that the entire juice from all gets mixed well with each other.

4.       Put this in the barley water, add to it honey and salt. Top up with a little water to bring it back to 1 glass quantity. Mix it well and strain it in a serving glass.

5.       Serve garnished with a mint sprig and lemon.
